ERGObaby - a year in the life competition

We showed you a sneak peek of ‘Babies’ the movie in January this year. This movie follows four babies from four corners of the globe over a twelve month period. It captures their first smile, first taste of food, first steps – a whole plethora of ‘firsts’ in fact.

In the spirit of observing a little one over a period of time, Belly Beyond would like to explore a ‘Year in the Life of an ERGObaby’…..what does the life of a baby and their parents look like when they enjoy the freedom of the ERGObaby Carrier?  What do parents get up to when they aren’t tied to settling their babies in a cot? What adventures do they go on when they don’t have to lug a bulky pram? How much easier can life be with an ERGObaby?

These photo montages below are all of Heidi and I and our families living the ERGObaby life - it's fair to say we walk the ERGObaby walk!

So what's in it for you?

We are calling all pregnant mums (or soon-to-be-dads) or new parents who have just welcomed their little one into the world who would like to share their ERGObaby journey with us over the next 12 months through monthly blog updates.

To get started, we will provide one lucky winner with a new award-winning ERGObaby Carrier and a ‘Heart 2 Heart’ infant insert. Throughout your journey, you will receive regular new products to use with your carrier which may include ERGObaby accessories, BabyLegs, and even a Rearview mirror. And, around the sixth month date, we may kit you out with a new release carrier (but shhh…. that product is still a secret). The total value of products gifted throughout the year will be worth over $500.

What's the catch?

In return, you will need to provide monthly updates with a babywearing flavour of your baby’s journey, plus some images and/or video to use on the Belly Beyond blog and Facebook page.  Writing doesn't have to be your thing, we can look after that part, but we will need you to share your feelings and experiences with us on a monthly basis.

Interested?
Leave us a comment telling us why you would love to use an ERGObaby with your new arrival and how it could make a big difference to your family life. Please also note your approximate due date or current age of newborn baby.   You can also comment on our Wordpress Blog if you don't have a Blogger account.

Please share this with your pregnant friends or those that have just welcomed a newborn!

I'm due in about 4weeks,
I currently have 5 kids at home, aged 10yrs 9yrs 4 yrs 3yrs and 18months, my 9 year old is in a wheelchair, So having a carrier would make it MUCH easier for me to get out and about if my hubby or older Son are unavailable to help out, as I cant push a wheelchair and a buggy, and hold hands with preschoolers all at the same time, which means if I dont have either my 10yr old son or my hubby to help out, I'm stuck at home, which tends to leave for very boaring days during the holidays for my other kids,

Hi. My second baby is due in early Sept. We also have a gorgeous and very active 3yo to throw into the mix. We never tried babywearing with our son but I can see it being an invaluable tool for us this time around both to give me hands-free time when baby is small and also for getting about. As a non-driver we use the bus a lot and juggling a busy pre-schooler, stroller and small baby is too much to even think about, throw a carrier into the mix though and things become a lot more managable :-)

I would love to go on an Ergo journey with you Bellybeyond! We have just welcomed number 4 on 8/06 and we have two year old twins and a nearly 7 year old. Getting out with the family is hard, as we have a twin pushchair but no pushchair for baby. We would love to be able to carry him safely around. He is 4.6kg, and very cute. The reason we can't put him with one of the twins is because they are jealous and try to smack him. If we had an ergo carrier we would get out to the park and out and about with the twins in a pram and the baby safely in a carrier. We love going to Western Springs, and out and about when we can.

I love to participate in the ERGObaby carrier journey. I am due with my first baby 8th July. I intend to stay active and get out and about as much as possible when baby arrives as I am very keen to participate in the Kerikeri half marathon later this year. I registered last year but the following day realised I was pregnant and felt it was too much of a challenge to take on so early in my pregnancy. This year I hope to try again and participate with some friends and an ERGObaby carrier may help in achieving this goal.

I have an active 18 month year old and 8 week old and am currently using a borrowed front pack. My first hated being against my chest prefered to be looking over the shoulder but baby Alistair loves snuggling in and the front pack is working really well so would love to have one that I could use for both children depending on what configuration is needed. I'm on line all the time and am a serial photo tqker so would have no problem giving you lots of info on how our Ergo year was going :-)

I am a single mumma to 4 boys (yes you read right!) aged 6, 5, 21 months and the new little man is just 25 days old! I would LOVE an Ergo carrier!! We do a lot of kiddy activities, playgroups, kinda gym, trips to the beach, town, museum etc and would get lots and lots of use out of it!
I don't drive at all, just walk and bus everywhere, so definitely something we would use daily!

I've heard amazing things about these carriers. For me it's not just about hands free time, it seems to be the perfect design for a baby to feel loved and protected. Close to the heart and able to be gentle rocked to sleep as i walk, without putting unecessary strain on my back or hips. I would love to be involved with this - my baby is due at the beginning of November.

Hi! I am almost 19 weeks pregnant with number two who is due a week before our son turns two .... what's the bet bub's will be a week late?! Oscar and I just LOVED the ergo from about 6months until I was too preggers to wear it. I think that the heart to heart will be the perfect solution . I can promise loads of fun family pic's of us moving house with our newborn (we seem to move town each time a baby is due!), all the kiddie activities and travel - toddler in one ergo, bub's in the heart to heart ergo. Will be a lifesaver for a planned flight. Anyway, hope our due date is perfect for your comp!

My husband and I would love to use an ERGObaby carrier from Belly Beyond and its accessories for our new arrival due in two weeks (11 July 2010). We are an active family with a 20 month old and we feel we could put the carrier to the test of a true kiwi lifestyle. We enjoy tramping/camping/walking and many other active lifestyle activities (let alone the basics of life like getting out and about supermarket shopping) and think that a carrier like this could allow us to keep active with our son and new arrival.

I'm due at the beginning of November. This will be my third baby and I have always carried my children in other carriers, but can't wait to get an ergo! I love to blog, not to mention take oodles of photos. I'm sure this new little girl of mine and I will go on many adventures, and the Ergo will only help that fun!

I was due yesterday with our second child. Our little man has just turned two and is a very active outdoorsy kid. We tried various carriers with our son but never seemed to find the perfect match - we didn't try the ergo though! I loved the feeling of having my son close to my body as much as possible and as a result he is the most affectionate sweet little boy ever. I would love to give #2 the same. We are also just about to start playcentre and spend ALOT of time out on the farm so having a great carrier is going to be a must!

I would love to be part of an ERGO blog. I have a 6 week old baby girl and an very active 3 year old boy. I love baby wearing and have a sling but being one shouldered it gives me alot of back pain. An Ergo seems the perect solution. I really need to have my hands free so I can keep up with my little boy.

I would love to be your guinea pig Ergo tester / blogger extraordinaire! I am only recently preggers with number 2, but am already worried about how my toddler will cope someone else using "his" buggy, and I have always wanted to be a more pro-active baby wearing mama! We did use a front pack with our 1st, but we were terribly uneducated and used the one that we were loaned by friends without questioning, only to discover further down the track that "crotch danglers" arent great for bubs! I intend to keep up with all our current toddler activities once bubs arrives, and being able to keep the new baby close and safe would be a huge bonus. The other benefit for me (hopefully) would be that being able to keep baby close may well encourage and help with breastfeeding which I struggled with last time. Fingers crossed!

Number 3 is due in early August. I also have a four, and a 2 year old. My friends have told me it is a real challenge to go from two children to three, simply because you don't have any more hands! I would also love to have this opportunity for myself however, as I am a stay at home mum, which I do love, but I do tend to feel a bit brain dead at times. This baby related purpose would be perfect for me!

We would love an Ergo carrier! Number 2 is due at the end of September and number 1 will be 14 months at that point! It would be wonderful to be able to carry the new babe around so I can still do plenty with our little girl!

Plus we are heading to Sydney in Feb next year for my sisters wedding and this would make the travelling much more manageable!

And hey - who wouldn't want to be featured regularly on your blog !! :)

Oh awesome!!

I would looove to win an ergo carrier!! Our baby boy Tamati was born 11 days ago, and i have been eyeing them off planning to buy one! We now have 3 under 5 so the carrier would be so great to leave my hands free when on outings with all three!! I'd love to give regular updates too =)

I am a busy mummy to 3 boys aged almost 5, 3, and just over 1, and am due with number 4 in early September this year.
We are out and about alot, and an Ergo would be a great addition to my family ;)
I have a sling, but would much prefer to try the amazing Ergo! To be able to breastfeed with my new baby attached to me would be fabulous too!!!
Thanks Lou and Heidi :)

Would really like to be involved. Sounds like a great adventure and a fantastic excuse to get out and about more. I have a 11 week old and a 2 year old. After spending the last few months nailed to the couch feeding I am ready to hit the world with the kids in tow. We head out alot, due to my cabin fever, and travel as well thanks to my husbands work. I love photography so could add some, hopefully great, pictures of our Ergo adventures. I know everyone here is deserving and as keen as we are to be involved but have fingers and toes crossed we are the lucky ones!

I would love this opportunity, I have a 15month old daughter and we had our gorgeous baby boy on the 17th April, 10 weeks old, so 13 months apart!
He suffers from Reflux, and HAS to be held constantly, until he is fast asleep we can sneak him into his bassinet, which is proving quite difficult with having a toddler running around the house! After many trips to the doctors, he is slowing coming right, but I've also heard that the ERGObaby carriers are great for reflux babies and would love to put it to the test ;) & i think it'll make going out just that much more easier! :)

My third baby is due in August. I used a sling with my daughter (who will be 19 months when this wee one arrives) but due to back issues am going to need something that distributes weight more evenly and an Ergo sounds ideal. I've watched the way I transport my babies change as my parenting ideals did. My son, who is almost seven, spent a lot of time in the pushchair, and as a reflux baby he hated it. My daughter was a sling baby, and so content to lie in the sling next to me for much of her out and about time. I think the ergo would give us a little more flexibility with the new baby and be more practical for longer, give the my daughter has only just begun walking.

Having an ergo would make a HUGE difference to my family. We have six children, three of them are preschoolers and the youngest is just 10wks old. (the oldest is 10yrs old) Life is very busy in my house and I have a baby who loves to be held or fed to sleep. Having an Ergo would mean that I can get something done around the house, I could play with my preschoolers and still have my baby close and happy. It breaks my heart when I have to do something and he cries and I know all he needs is a cuddle :-(
We also live on a small farm and in the Spring I will be feeding calves and lambs - an ergo would be so much easier than trying to push the pram through the Southland mud! I would use it to take my big girl to netball and my big boy to rugby, baby attached so no running into peoples ankles on the side line! I am also planning to get myself fit and back into triathlons (I havnt done one since I was 6mths pregnant with my 4yr old) At present I cant go for a walk because I cant put all three little ones in the pushchair and the 4yr old cant walk that far. We live rurally so I need to keep them all close and safe while we are walking on the roads. I might even be able to sneak out on the weekend and walk in the forest track a couple of kms from our house. WoW - as I write this I realise the freedom it would give me, it would be awesome.

I would love to be considered in being an Ergobaby carrier mum!Am due July 21st, and already have a gorgeous active 14month old baby at home, who also needs her mum. I tried a babycarrier 10yrs ago (my eldest boy is 11 now!) but wasn't that successful and I am sure that they are improved and seem fab now. Would so much much easier to have baby in in the carrier while doing housework chores and attending my eldest boys sports days (lots of them!), then I have spare hands for my 14 month girl. Phew! Life could be so much happier and managable with one of these things! I would really enjoy sharing my thoughts and my journey with others as well :)
Thanks!

We would love to be able to share our experiences and feelings with such a great product.
I love documenting the journey we have with our children, journals, keepsakes, photos. I always make sure I find the time to record their memorable moments in the early years.
Helping out with this task would be rewarding to me and I hope to be able to help other parents on making a good decision on a great product such as the ERGObaby Carrier
We are due to have our second bub late September, our first will be 18months. We love having our babies close to us and keeping active.

Yay!! I'm keen! I'm due in 8 weeks with baby #2 - we didn't use a buggy at all for the first 12 months of #1's life, and carried him everywhere. He loved, we loved it, and we're planning on doing the same with #2.

Wearing a baby makes it so much easier to get out and about and do things. A buggy is cumbersome and often awkward to get around shops and crowds - and just how cute does it look when you see a Mum or Dad wearing their baby?! :)

Hey BellyBeyond!!! I would love love love to do ERGObaby - a year in the life with you!!! We have our 16 week old son (I hope he isn't too old) and we are wanting more children in the future and this would be a fantastic investment that we can't afford. Also my man doesnt like moby wraps because he thinks they are "gay"... men a?! I love taking pics and video, my camera lives in the nappy bag! This is my blog where I would be posting http://realmumrealloverealmess.blogspot.com/ and want to say thanks for the opportunity to win!!!

I am due any day now (literally!!)with my 3rd baby. Being able to have a Ergo carrier would be fantastic! Especially with my busy toddler to look after as well. I was too unwell after my 2 other babies to carry them, but this time is different :-) & I'm looking forward to being able to do that - but I currently don't even have a wrap/sling or carrier of any kind! I am a very keen blogger and photographer, so I'm sure that will help to document the Ergo Journey. thanks

We welcomed our first baby into the world 6 weeks earlier than planned! He is a tiny little fellow but very cute! We don't have a capsule or anything so we do struggle to get around and do things without our big bulky pram. The Ergo-carrier looks awesome!

My husband and I have tried on an ergo carrier and loved it! It had my son giggling in minutes. I would love share my journey with you as my husband and I visit family in tasmania and Perth. My hubby also is looking forward to gardening with bub and I am hoping to get fit carrying him around shopping, visiting friends and walking our dogs! I would love to be part of your competition although bub is nearly 1!

Hi there, my partner Jason and I are expecting a little girl on the first or second of October. This will be our first baby and I am very excited about it! :)

I am definitely going to use a carrier (I have an old one that someone gave me - but your ones look much more comfortable and versatile)!

I have been an art teacher for the past seven years (and have an awesome camera) so can guarantee that I will take semi-decent photos if I am selected for your blog. :) I will be working from home (as an artist) while I raise our little girl, so will definitely have the time to write frequent updates too. I love writing, incidentally, so that side of it wouldn't be a problem at all.

If you want to find out more about me, you are welcome to visit my website or read my blog. Thanks! :) www.amiria.co.nz art@amiria.co.nz

Hello, I have a week old baby boy. I just love spending time with him. Being as close as possible to him is what I believe motherhood is all about. I would so love to be involved with the ergo baby as I believe it is so important to spend as much time as possible with my son so better to understand his needs and to be able to communicate better with him. He is a delightful little boy and loves being held and having cuddles so I know he will just love being in an ergopack. I’m now a stay at home mum so will be going out and about a lot with him and will love the feeling of having him so close to me. I’m a strong believer in baby wearing and am totally into cloth nappies and cloth everything for the whole family so the baby wearing definitely lines up with my philosophy about motherhood.

Hi, I have 4 children ages 8, 7, 5, 15mths and now a new bub due in Feb 2011. We are often out and about and our Moby Wrap has seen hubby and I participate in Fun runs (yes I breastfed bub while he was in the wrap!), bush walks, shopping and general outings with the children while our 15mth was younger. Hubby often wore bub too. The Ergo looks like a fantastic product and it looks like it would be able to be used til bubs is much heavier than our wrap. We wouldn't need to get a double pushchair! I am a stay-at-home Mum and also on the school BOT and having the Ergo would see us fully participating in school activities with a newborn. We would love to be one of your Ergo families and share the Ergo Journey!

being a mum to 3 is busy busy, and now we are 5 weeks away from meeting our beautiful baby #4 and we can not wait, I cant think of anything better to be so busy with other than my family, for me having an ergobaby carrier would mean being able to take comfort in the fact that my baby was safe, warm and comfy and I was still able to attend to my other 3 children with ease, worth its weight in gold and more I say, I think one of the hardest things about being a mum is when you go on outtings etc and the worry that you may miss something having a carrier would mean that the attention could still be on all children and not just the pram.

Hey there. My baby girl is 6 weeks old, along with my eldest girl who is 4.5 and my charming but cheeky boy who has just turned 2.

I have to confess I am an Ergo fan from way back - I bought mine when my eldest was 4mths old and to this day my husband thinks it's the best baby purchase ever made (he wasn't so convinced at the time haha!) It's certainly had it's share of adventures - from helping out with the ordinary day to day household chores to outings from the coast to the mountains, city to the countryside and on trains and planes! I would love to blog our babywearing adventures over the upcoming year for you.

My kids have loads of energy to burn so getting out and about is a priority in this house ;-) And now with 3, getting around is nowhere near as easy as before, as I now have my "hands full" (or so every person I meet tells me). Having an Ergo frees my hands, while still holding my baby close, allowing me to keep my older two close and safe.

I have been planning some walking adventures to help shift some, um ok, lots, of those post-baby kgs *ahem* and what better way to get around than with the Ergo?! We still like to carry our 2yr old on our back so having the old ergo on hand would be great for that - and the new one just perfect for our newest precious addition. Who, coincidentally loves being heart to heart with mum or dad, so the insert would be oh so useful!
